THE SEVEN SCENES TO YOUR WEDDING STORY.

Throughout a wedding day there are seven key ‘scenes’ that tell the story from start to finish. These are what we’ll be diving into:

  1. GROOM PREP

  2. BRIDE PREP

  3. CEREMONY

  4. FAMILY PORTRAITS

  5. BRIDAL PARTY PORTRAITS

  6. COUPLE PORTRAITS

  7. RECEPTION

I’m going to run you through each of these, how I shoot them, key shots I’m looking for, and hopefully answer the more common questions I get in regards to how I document weddings. Lesgo!

I’ve included practical elements (highlighted in green) for you to keep in mind, and any key shots I try to get (highlighted in light beige) at every wedding.

Every wedding's got its own special vibe and might have some variations depending on the schedule and what's going on. But hey, don't stress about following every single thing in this guide. Just take it as inspiration and let it guide you along the way!

G'DAY, I'M LEVI!

G'DAY, I'M LEVI!

Your photographer.

My whole vibe is this: It’s a lot easier to have fun with someone you're comfortable around than it is someone you’ve never really met before. I put a lot of effort into creating a relationship with my clients that supersedes the idea of me just being a vendor. I’m your best friend, because it’s super easy to have fun with your best friend.

I’m brimming with banter, stupid jokes and a froth load of fun to just have a laugh with you guys, running around being silly, and being a bunch of goofs creating epic art together. Who’s saying no to that!?

GROOM PREP

The epic part of the wedding day where the groom and his squad gear up for the ceremony. It's all about getting the groove on before tying the knot, my friends. Basically, the groom and his boys gather in a sweet spot, like a swanky hotel room or a chill dressing area at the venue. It's the ultimate bro time, getting ready to rock that wedding like the legends they were born to be!

Things to keep in mind:

Bring the Energy: Get pumped, fellas! Embrace the excitement and positive vibes. Laugh, joke around, and show off that camaraderie. The more energy you bring, the more those photos will radiate with awesomeness.

Be Authentic: Don't hold back on expressing your true personalities. Whether you're the goofy one, the suave dude, or the life of the party, let your individuality shine. Authenticity is the key to making those photos feel genuine and memorable.

Pay Attention to Details: Take a moment to fine-tune your appearance. Straighten those ties, adjust the lapel flower, and make sure everything is looking sharp. Attention to detail elevates the overall aesthetic and makes for top-notch photos.

Be Present: Stay in the moment and savour the experience. Engage with your groomsmen, interact with them and embrace the joy of the occasion. Authentic emotions make for powerful photographs that'll transport you back to that epic day whenever you look at them.

Have Fun: Remember, it's not just about the photos, you’re here to have a blast! Let loose, enjoy the process, and make lasting memories. The more fun you have, the more those photos will capture the essence of an unforgettable celebration.

BRIDE PREP

The pre-game warm-up for a wedding. The part where the bride and her squad get ready to slay the ceremony. Usually, it happens in a swanky hotel room or at the bride's crib. It's a time for the bride to chill, get pampered, and hang out with her besties before the big moment.

Things to keep in mind:

Plan Ahead: Make sure you have a clear timeline and schedule for the bride prep. Coordinate with your hair and makeup artists, photographer, and bridal party to ensure everyone is on the same page. This will help avoid any unnecessary stress on the day itself.

Create a Relaxing Environment: Choose a comfortable and spacious location for the bride prep, whether it's a hotel suite or your own home. Set the mood with some relaxing music and create a cozy atmosphere with scented candles or fairy lights.

Choose the Right Company: Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who will help keep the energy high and the vibes fun. Invite your closest friends or family members who you know will make the experience enjoyable.

Have Snacks and Drinks: Keep the energy levels up by providing light snacks and beverages during the bride prep. Opt for finger foods, fruit, and refreshing drinks that are easy to enjoy while getting ready.

Prepare Some Entertainment: Plan for some fun activities or entertainment options to keep everyone engaged and entertained. You could have a playlist of your favourite songs, a mini photo booth with props, or even some wedding-themed games to play.

YOUR CEREMONY

The main event of the wedding day where you guys gets all official and stuff. It's when you two frothers stand up in front of everyone and declare your undying love for each other. You know, the mushy, lovey-dovey part.

Things to keep in mind:

Relax and enjoy the moment: Take a deep breath and remind yourself to be present throughout the ceremony. It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of emotions and logistics, but remember to savor the experience. This is a special moment in your life, so allow yourself to fully enjoy it.

Delegate responsibilities: On the day of the wedding, delegate tasks to trusted family members, friends, or your wedding planner/coordinator. Assign someone to handle any last-minute details or unexpected situations that may arise, allowing you to focus on yourself and the ceremony.

Stay hydrated and nourished: With all the excitement and busyness, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself. Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day to stay energized and avoid feeling lightheaded or exhausted during the ceremony.

Prepare an emergency kit: Pack a small emergency kit with essentials like tissues, safety pins, stain remover, breath mints, band-aids, and any other items you might need in case of wardrobe malfunctions or unexpected situations. Having this kit on hand can bring peace of mind and help you tackle any minor issues that may arise.

Embrace imperfections: Remember that perfection is not the goal—authenticity and joy are. Even if things don't go exactly as planned, embrace the imperfections and go with the flow. It's these unexpected moments that often become cherished memories

Cherish each other: Throughout the ceremony, make a conscious effort to cherish every moment with your partner. Take the time to hold hands, steal glances, and create little memories together. This day is about the two of you, so make sure to nurture your connection and love throughout the celebration.

A few suggestions.

Personalise your ceremony: Infuse your personalities and love story into the ceremony. Write your own vows, select meaningful readings or poems, or include personal anecdotes that reflect your journey together. This adds a unique and heartfelt touch to the proceedings.

Cultural and religious considerations: If you have cultural or religious traditions you wish to include, discuss them with your officiant or celebrant. Ensure that any necessary rituals or customs are respected and incorporated appropriately.

Rehearsal: Plan a rehearsal to run through the ceremony with your wedding party, officiant, and any other participants. This ensures everyone knows their roles, timing, and cues, leading to a smooth and well-coordinated ceremony.

FAMILY PHOTOS

I like to do this straight after the ceremony because everyone’s already standing around in the same general area, and less likely to have wandered off.

Why do we need family photos?

Because it’s showcasing your support system. Your family has likely played a significant role in your life and relationship together, supporting and guiding you along the way (not always the case, but generally speaking).

Putting 10 - 15 minutes aside straight after your ceremony to shoot your family photos allows you to acknowledge and showcase that support, capturing the bonds and connections you have with your loved ones. It's a way to honour and include your family in the wedding festivities, symbolising the importance of their presence on your special day.

PRACTICAL THINGS

Two months out from your wedding you’ll receive two questionnaires from me, one is your vendor list and the other is regarding your wedding day plans and specific things I need to know

One of these questions is your family photo list, so on the day you know you’ll get a photo with every family member you desire.

BRIDAL PARTY

Basically, it's the part of the day where you and your partner, along with your ride-or-die crew (your bridies and groomies) gather to snap some epic pics. It's all about capturing those unforgettable moments with your closest pals who are there to support you on your big day.

Things to keep in mind:

Grab a coupla’ roadies, organise some snacks and get ready for the most fun you’ve had taking group photos. I’ll be playing some groovy tunes creating that vibe and taking the edge off.

I’ve got a handful of cracker moments I love to get during this part of your day, most of them revolve around a bunch of banter and sharing stories about parts of your lives that may never be repeated again.

YOUR PORTRAITS

If possible, aaalways try to schedule your portrait session for golden hour, the sixty minutes before the sun goes down.

What time of mood do you want?

There’s a few photographic styles that can be implemented here depending on how you guys picture your wedding photos to look. Both styles (moods) produce very different results, and it’s important to identify which style you prefer your portraits to be shot in.

CANDID, UNPOSED, AND DEFINITELY NOT BORING.

This mood is aaaaall about having fun!
